Following the hit films Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan are set to collaborate once more in Dulhania 3, titled Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Supported by Karan Johar’s production house Dharma Productions, the movie will not include Alia Bhatt, who appeared in the previous films of the Dulhania series, and will instead star Janhvi Kapoor as Tulsi Kumari. Varun is set to portray the character of Sunny Sanskari.
The official announcement video was posted on Thursday by Karan Johar and the main cast and creators of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari on Instagram. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, produced by Dharma Productions, is set to hit theatres on April 18, 2025.
The caption for the film’s title and release date announcement stated, “Your Sanskari is on his way to get his (Tulsi emoji) Kumari! This love story wrapped with entertainment is coming to the big screens! Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumariin cinemas, 18th April 2025!” Varun and Janvi are coming together once again for their second film after Bawaal in 2023, which was directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
Earlier this year, following a report that suggested Alia Bhatt, who starred in both Dulhania films, would be replaced by Janhvi Kapoor in Dulhania 3, Karan Johar appeared to respond to the allegation. He requested that the media refrain from speculating about the upcoming film.
Sharing on Instagram Stories, Karan wrote, “Every morning I wake up to news that is not an official confirmation by Dharma Productions… would request members of the media to please not conjecture about the continuance of a franchise or the beginning of one! We will give details when the time and plans are formulated and fructified! We are humbled by the excitement shown to our future films but would love to have accuracy instead of speculation… Respectfully, Karan Johar.”
Karan appeared to be responding to a report by PeepingMoon.com stating that Alia will not be in Dulhania 3. Instead, Janhvi Kapoor has been cast as the new Dulhania opposite Varun Dhawan, who also starred in the previous two Dulhania films. According to the portal, Shashank Khaitan will be directing Dulhania 3. The film is said to feature a unique plot and characters, completely separate from the previous installments.
