“Thane has around 80 plus developed parks and this is the largest of them,” said Mitali Sancheti, deputy city commissioner.
This is Thane: Thane, which is known as the “City of Lakes,” now got a Grand Central Park. It is a public park on 20.5 acres in Kolshet, and chief minister Eknath Shinde opened it to the public on February 8.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) built the Grand Central Park as part of the Suvidha plot development project. It was modelled after New York’s famous Grand Central Park and London’s Hyde Park. Private developer Kalpataru, who is working on a project called Park City in Kolshet, planned and built the park as a public amenity in exchange for transfer of development rights (TDR). They have now given the park to the corporation.
Over 3,500 different kinds of trees grow in Central Park, and the park is full of features that are meant to make tourists feel like they are really there. There are four designed parks in the park: a Mughal garden, a Chinese park, a Moroccan park that shows off Moroccan culture, and a Japanese park. The park has a jogging track, the largest skating rink in the country, courts for lawn tennis and volleyball, play equipment for kids, and special areas for yoga and meditation, according to Additional Commissioner (1) Sandeep Malvi. The park also has a large open amphitheatre.
Birdwatchers will also enjoy it, as many kinds of birds will be drawn to the park’s sources of water. Vice Mayor Mitali Sancheti said,“Thane has around 80 plus developed parks and this is the largest of them,”The company also takes care of a butterfly garden that is two acres big and is in a well-known public park near Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Neelkanth Woods in Manpada.
When asked if there would be a fee to enter the park, officials said that a meeting of top officials in two days would make a final decision.
